Paddle Boat

This is a great gift for a child. They can even help make it!

Materials:

  • 9" x 5" x 3/4" piece of wood
  • 5" x 3" x 1/4" piece of wood
  • a 2" length of wooden dowel rod 1/2" in diameter
  • two small screws
  • a rubber band
  • waterproof glue
  • paint
  • saw

 

Instructions:

Print out the pattern pieces . Copy the boat pattern onto the large piece of wood. Copy two paddle wheel pieces onto the small piece of wood. Cut out the wood pieces and sand them smooth.

Cut a 1" length of the dowel and a 1/2" length of the dowel. Sand the dowel pieces and glue them onto the boat where indicated on the pattern.

Slip the two pieces of the paddle wheel together along the slots. Fasten them securely using a little glue.

Screw the small screws into each side of the back end of the boat.

Paint the boat and allow to dry for 24 hours.

Slip the rubber band over the screws. Place the paddle wheel inside the rubber band. Twist the paddle wheel around tightly. Place the boat in the water and watch it go!
